Learn more about the long-term tooth replacement that can get your smile back.
Are you an adult who is missing one or more teeth? If so, you may be curious to know more about the options you have in Bellevue, WA. This is where our restorative dentists Dr. Man Sunwoo and Dr. Alan Ho can help you out. We know that the first thing most patients are looking for is a replacement that is as close to natural teeth as you can possibly get. In this case, there is nothing better than dental implants.
What are dental implants?
Implants are truly the closest thing you can get to having real teeth. The implant is an artificial (metal) tooth root, which is placed into the jawbone to support a false tooth. What makes implants unique is that they are biocompatible, meaning that the metal (usually titanium) fuses together naturally with tissue and bone in the body. This means that as the jawbone and tissue heal from implant placement surgery that they will naturally meld together with the implant to become one permanent unit.
How long does it take to get implants?
The length of treatment can range from being able to immediately place the implants after tooth extraction to six months or more if bone grafting is required prior to getting implants. It usually takes anywhere from 3-6 months; however, the key is making sure the implant and jawbone fuse together, which can take several months. Everyone’s healing process is different, so it can take as long as a year to get implants. This is something our Bellevue general dentist would be happy to discuss with you during your consultation.
Does getting implants hurt?
When people think about dental procedures and surgery most people worry that it might be uncomfortable or painful. Our goal as your dentist is to make sure that you experience as little discomfort as possible. All implant surgeries are minor and can be performed right here in our office under sedation to help you feel relaxed and calm while also experiencing no pain.
What are the benefits of implants?
Truly there are no other tooth replacement options that function like real teeth in the same way that implants do. With the proper care, they could last the rest of your life. Furthermore, implants preserve the jawbone and prevent the jawbone from deteriorating (a complication of untreated tooth loss). Implants are also strong and durable so they will fully restore chewing and speech (as speech impediments can occur if you have significant tooth loss).
